Beginner 1 is an 8-week program. K-9 offers two separate sessions for Beginners. All work is done on leash, teaching the handler and dog proper heel position and how to heel with your dog (heeling is walking with your dog on your left side, under control but with a loose leash ). Work on getting reliable recalls and other skills needed for a well-behaved dog.
Beginner 2 is an 8-week program. All work is done on leash. These classes continue teaching the handler and dog how to heel properly, adding in distractions and more complicated situations. Students work towards getting reliable recalls, sit-stays, and down-stays. Other skills and exercises for a well-behaved dog are covered. Students who have successfully completed the 8-week Beginners 1 Class may then advance into the Beginners 2 Class.
Our Novice class continues works on fine tuning what has been learned in the Beginners classes. The Novice class expects more from each student/dog team. Exercises become more challenging, requiring working through various distractions. Straight fronts and finishes and reliable, speedy recalls are emphasized. Students and dogs learn work together as a happy team. Pieces of exercises practiced separately are now put together to form the AKC Obedience exercises. Once you become a member, the Novice class would be the next class after Beginner 1 and Beginner 2.
Our Advanced Novice class works on fine tuning everything learned in the previous classes. All exercises are done on and off leash. Proper heel position is expected while heeling. Recalls are done off leash. Introduction to Open exercises. Student and dog are expected to work as a cohesive, happy team.
The Show class is for handlers and dogs that are preparing to start showing at the Novice level. Each exercise is critiqued and fine-tuned to help the handler and dog achieve the best performance possible.

Exercises that are being learned are scent discrimination, go-outs, and directed jumping. These classes help the handler and dog get to a level where they are able to show.
