Agility is an obstacle course you run with your dog. It is a timed event where speed and accuracy are of equal importance. Agility is a challenging and fun sport for both dog and handler. Most dogs who are physically fit are capable of running agility. Dogs run at different heights depending on their height at the withers. AKC, UKC, NADAC, USDAA, CPE, DOCNA, ASCA, and TDAA are some of the venues for competing in Agility. All allow mixed breeds to compete.
A dog needs to learn how to work with the handler as a team. A great handler/dog relationship is crucial for success in Agility. Dogs are wonderful athletes and most learn the obstacles quickly, which is is actually the easy part of Agility. The handler has the much more difficult job of guiding the dog around the course in an efficient and accurate manner -- all at top speed and under pressure!
You will see people and dogs of all ages and abilities participating in Agility. Whether you want to compete at a Championship level or just run for fun, Agility is a very friendly and supportive dog sport.
Regular Members in good standing are eligible to participate in the Beginners Agility Class. Advancement beyond the Beginners level is subject to the instructor's recommendation.
Agility classes take place on Monday and Tuesday nights from approximately 6:00-8:30. In nice weather we are outside and in the winter we are in the buildings. If you are interested in Agility, feel free to stop out and watch a class.
